Pico-ITX kit targets gadget builders

A new kit from chip and board vendor Via Technologies makes it easy to embedded Via’s teeny Pico-ITX micro-motherboard technology into all manner of devices.

The “Artigo Pico-ITX Builder Kit A1000″ includes a 1GHz Via Epia Pico-ITX motherboard, a Pico-ITX form-factor chassis, power adapter, and accessories.

At 3.9 x 2.8 inches (100 x 72mm), Pico-ITX boards target ultra compact “embedded PCs, systems, and appliances.”

The kit runs Windows XP and Linux. It’s available from mini-itx.de, LinITX.com, Mini-ITX.com online, as well as from Fry’s Electronics, among other retailers. The kits are expected to be available “toward the end of December,” priced at around $350.

Add memory, hard drive, keyboard, mouse, display, and stir.
